My 13-year-old son began staying late after school, so I decided to find out why — and saw him getting into a convoy of black

I grew worried when my son Kyle started coming home late with vague excuses. One day, I followed him after school and was stunned to see him picked up by a convoy of black SUVs that led to a grand mansion.

There, I confronted a wealthy woman who scoffed at me, but Kyle soon appeared, along with a man I never expected to see again—his father, who’d abandoned us years ago. Now successful, he claimed he wanted to “make things right” by taking Kyle.

But Kyle stood firm, telling his father that he only accepted gifts to help me, and he’d never leave me for a life of luxury with a man who’d left us. I felt a fierce pride in my son as we walked away, hand in hand, choosing our life together over his father’s wealth.

The next day, a stranger delivered a bag of cash with a note from his father asking for forgiveness. Kyle and I decided that, with or without the money, we’d face whatever came next—together.
