There was a zip line over the water and everyone wanted to try it. Unfortunately, for Aimee, things were not going to work out as well as they could.
During her turn across the zip line, the cable snapped and she fell toward a cliff. The injury was severe and she ended up losing her leg, but that is only part of the story.
The doctors then found that she was facing a much more serious problem because of flesh-eating bacteria. It had infected the wound and it was possible that she could die from it.
Due to the infection and the deep wound on her leg, she ended up with a condition that would threaten her life. Most people refer to it as a flesh-eating disease.
The young woman had to go through a number of surgeries. Both hands and legs were amputated, but she was able to overcome the difficulty eventually.
Some people would have thrown in the towel after experiencing such a difficulty but that wasn’t her style. Four years after the accident occurred she is now seen on social media, and has gone viral for a very unique picture.
She is wearing a bikini on the beach, showing off her body including her amputated limbs and scars left behind from the flesh-eating bacteria.
She wrote: “It has taken me a long time to become comfortable with and accept my new body. We are ALL made with imperfections and there is so much beauty in our flaws. The scars and skin grafting build character! It’s not about what you have — what you do with what you have is what really counts.”
These days, Aimee advocates for those who have disabilities, including amputees. She speaks publicly regularly and posts on social media to inspire those who may be going through difficult times.
In addition, she has come back to school at the University of West Georgia to get a PhD in psychology.
