Donald Trump’s unsuccessful attempt to kiss his wife, Melania, during his inauguration has left viewers perplexed.
Celebrities, former presidents, cabinet nominees, and others gathered in Washington for the inauguration of the US president today, January 20.
Naturally, Trump was accompanied by his spouse and family, who were waiting for him as he entered the Capitol Rotunda.
He also leaned in to kiss Melania’s cheek as he got closer, but he was unable to do so. Now, the two might have just been sharing a stylish air kiss.
However, it appeared like Melania’s hat just protected her from her husband’s mouth.
Trump then shook outgoing President Joe Biden’s hand, but the perplexing kiss attempt diverted all attention from Trump.
“Was that a fake kiss?” One wrote on X, as others who had already been confused by the new first lady’s wide-rimmed black hat wrote: “Oh, now it makes sense. Melania wore the hat as a barrier to Trump’s lips. Got it.”
Another merely posted the video with the caption, “CAN’T THIS IS TOO FUNNY.”
Many concurred that she is “so mother,” believing the “hat was intentional.”
One joked, “I got booped by that fashion set up.”
Another wrote, “What a bizarre moment, and Trump’s face after….
“All time moment there with Trump trying to give Melania a kiss on the cheek without hitting her hat,” another person said.
Some referred to the hat as a “Trump shield,” while others merely stated that Trump is aware that “she doesn’t want her makeup smeared” by his kiss.
While some claim Melania has dressed for a “funeral” rather than Inauguration Day as she reclaims her status as first lady, others have simply stated that he should have “kissed her hand” instead.

When Michelle Obama’s husband arrived at the inauguration, many people noted that she was not there.
Many people quickly took to X to ask where she was, with one user asking, “Where is Michelle Obama?”
“Dear Obama, where is Michelle?” said another. A third, however, wrote, “Where has Michelle Obama been.”
A fourth person proposed the statement, “Michelle Obama has been MIA for a while.”
The final remark follows the absence of Barack Obama’s spouse from the funeral of former US President Jimmy Carter earlier this month. Her absence from the political events has been the subject of numerous theories, but no official explanation has been provided as of yet.
An official statement from the Obama’s office read: “Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former first lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.”
